Lake James Summer Newsletter 2019
Please put Saturday, July 6, 2019, on your calendars as that is the date for our annual Lake James Summer Picnic. Back by popular demand, it will once again be held at Moosehead Boat Launch. Boat registration begins at 10 am, the boat parade begins at 11 am, then a picnic lunch will follow at 12 noon to 3 pm.
The entrance to the boat launch will be closed from 7 am to 5 pm from launching or removing boats, to ensure the safety of homeowners young and old walking to the picnic.
We ask that everyone participating in the boat parade to register at the pontoon parked parallel on the lakeside of Moosehead Boat Launch at 10:00 am. Jim and Sandy Fauser will ask your name, boat theme and give you a number to put on both sides of your boat for the judges to identify. Gary “Punk” and Cindy Kochensparger will again lead our parade and “Punk” will announce winners soon after the event. We are trying a new system for voting this year as Sara was asked by several homeowners if they could vote instead of the Sheriff. We will have jars marked with each boat name and number and you can deposit dollar bills into the jar that has the boat of your choice on it. Homeowner, Kathy Timberlake has once again generously donated the 2nd and 3rd place trophies. And Diane& Peter Bynum has graciously updated our very special first place trophy with all past years’ winners! She also made the plates recognizing Lori and Scott Kellenberger for their very generous donation of all the awesome picnic tables at our parks! For additional pontoon parade info please contact Jim at 1-989-366-6318 or email sfauser32@hotmail.com
Lunch will begin after the boat parade is over approximately 12noon and will continue to 3 pm. We are also trying something different for the picnic this year. We searched for a caterer. It takes a week to prepare, purchase coordinate delivery of food items. We were very lucky to be recommended to The Angry Sandwich, who has done other venues in our town. Debra Leader and her husband have quoted us a very reasonable price and will deliver Italian Sausage with onions and peppers, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches hotdogs, BBQ baked beans, creamy coleslaw, and seasoned potatoes. As well as fresh salad and cake. She is delivering all food items in aluminum trays. We are asking for volunteers to set up and serve. Please contact Mary Jo at 586-481-3413 or lakejameslife@gmail.com to let us know you can help! You have always joined in enthusiastically in the past and we are counting on you again.
We hope to be cleaned up by 3pm so all of the volunteers can join their families and guests and enjoy the rest of the day.
We have asked Basil Ciaramitaro, also known as….Pappy the Clown, to join us once again with his jokes, magic and balloon designs.
Also, Kelly Fisher of Sweet Treats Ice Cream will be here with all your favorite ice creams! Parents and grandparents bring your cash, but she also accepts plastic! This has been a favorite for the last few years!
Our board member Sara Roberts and her children will once again be selling our Lake James koozies for the bargain price of $2. Remember to stop in at The Shirt Factory and see Karen because she has our Lake James logo to put on any shirt, hat or a jacket of your choice.
We also want to remind you that the fishing contest is going on again this year until August 10th. No entries will be accepted after the 10th. Only 3 entries made so far! (Winners announced at Annual Meeting on Saturday, August 24th) Please see all pertinent info in the Fish Tab on the website. (remember when you’re fishing bring along a measuring tape and take a picture!) ……so there are now 5 fish tagged….happy fishing one and all!
