Many years ago the MRWA was formed through a grassroots effort of people concerned about the condition of the Muskegon River Watershed. The heartbeat of the organization was, and continues to be, people that dedicate their time, passion, and money to protect and improve the watershed. With this in mind, all of us are MRWA; staff, the board, and community members who come together under a common purpose.

The North Country Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (NCCISMA), under the Mecosta Conservation District, has been awarded a grant for $191,000 from the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program (MISGP) for a two year project to address invasive species on a watershed scale. Edmund Muskie from Maine introduced the package of legislation commonly known as the Clean Water Act (CWA) t to the US Senate in 1971. The bill, actually 240 pages of amendments to previous legislation, passed by a comfortable margin in the Senate and the House of Representatives but stalled in the White House when Richard Nixon exercised his right of presidential veto.
