The board has been made aware (thank you observant homeowners) of a few homes being posted on VRBO, AIRBNB and other sites for short-term rentals. This, of course, being in direct violation of our property restrictions.
Sadly, after personally talking with one particular homeowner this past summer and he agreeing to discontinue these rentals with a handshake, we were made aware it had been rented for a weekend this winter to 14 men who fished from sun-up to sun-down and also during the 2019 summer (reviews on line from renters). The home was and still is advertised on short term vacation websites.
This property on Springwood has received a letter from the association lawyer to cease and desist. If anyone notices violations (pictures help) please call any board member and we will pursue with our lawyer and court proceedings. We have also been made aware of suspect rentals on Ridgewood, Matchwood, Lake James Dr and Shadow Lake. Please, neighbors, keep an eye and we will legally pursue. These are rented for hundreds of dollars a night, to enjoy the lake we pay to keep clean and fish the fish we pay to have stocked for our homeowners' enjoyment. If brought to the attention of our township (who is also working with others in Michigan to stop short term rentals) these residential homeowners will be paying much higher taxes. In addition the association is determining to assess $500 per night for homes being shot-term rented in addition to having such owner paying any court costs, all legal fees etc.
The word is out that people from downstate are looking for homes to "escape" to rent during the virus. As of today we have one case of coronavirus in Roscommon County. If we are not vigilant we may be exposed to asymptomatic people and many of us are older with compromised immune systems. Already our snowbirds are coming home and my friends have called and said they are self isolating for two weeks as a precaution. Bless you!
We wish all of our community to be safe, stay safe, during this very frightening unsettling time.
We need to stay apart to stay together to be safe.
