During the annual meeting on August 24th., there was a complaint reference to the current low water level at the lake. The complainant and the Board became involved in questions and answers to no avail. It was then suggested, by the Board, that the complainant seek answers elsewhere since an agreement was not reached.
On Saturday August 28th, a meeting was scheduled at the dam with the complainant (s) in an attempt to rectify all concerns, again to no avail.
Since this meeting, it has been rumored that the LJPOA is intentionally maintaining a low lake water level to keep within the guidelines of 1155 feet above sea level, a documented level set when the lake was developed in 1961. This level is one foot higher than Houghton Lake and can be found on line @ U.S. Topographical maps, Lake James, Roscommon County, Michigan.
This rumor is totally false and I speak for the entire board... WE, as board members are also property owners. As board members resident concerns are also our concerns...
Upon investigating the low water level it was determined that the flow of water into the lake is significantly restricted. Even though the dam is CLOSED there is a small amount of water flowing around the sides of the structure into Denton Creek, I was advised by the Dam Operator that this is a normal flow. This amount of flow is equaled with the restricted amount of water coming into the lake keeping lake waters at a low level.
Prior to the August 24th meeting and the resident complaint the LJPOA was aware and concerned with the lake level and is looking into the matter ie: summer drought, obstructions within the floodings and other Dams where water flow originates.
I've asked that this memo be put on our web site so ALL property owners can be apprised of the situation and our current investigation into the matter.
Thank You
Rocky
